Decorative & Industrial Objects Expert

About the role

As an Expert in Decorative Objects in the Interiors team, you will be closely involved with evaluating and arranging lots submitted by our users. Using your expert knowledge of decorative objects from all over the globe, you will be responsible for creating attractive auctions every week. Catawiki strives to keep user transactions as transparent and fair as possible, and your expertise and experience play a large part in maintaining this standard; you know better than anyone what items are of interest to our users.

The supply you will be evaluating will be diverse and will require broad and general knowledge in the field of decorative and industrial objects from the 20th century. You will be evaluating enamel signs, industrial design, and curiosa such as school maps, globes, and figurines. You will review lot titles, descriptions, lot pictures, and provide users with an estimated value based on this information. If you need to reject a submission, you do so in a professional and courteous manner. Your efforts result in exceptional auctions that bidders will find irresistible. As this is a popular auction type, we are looking for someone who enjoys being geeky, using our smart tools to help you be the most efficient you can be!

Aside from evaluating lots submitted by our users and compiling auctions together with your colleagues, you are also responsible together with the sales team for developing the seller base of the auctions. You will proactively review seller segments, assist sales team members in onboarding high potential leads and upselling existing sellers, making use of your extensive network of potential sellers, buyers, and experts.

What you’ll bring

• A true expert in decorative objects, with broad knowledge of vintage, industrial, brocante, and curiosa nitems to decorate your home
• A true generalist with a broad interest in decorative and industrial objects and furnishings, and a good sense of styles and periods
• You have an extensive network of dealers/buyers
• Documented commercial experience and comfortable with price negotiations;
• You are a natural team player and thrive in a diverse team environment
• Excellent English communication
• Great computer skills necessary
• An affinity for numbers and analysing auction results is a plus!
  

Where you’ll be

The role can be based in The Netherlands or Belgium with a work from home arrangement. We will also consider applicants from Germany, France, Italy, or other European countries.
