So what's the job

As an Engineering Manager you will report to a Senior Engineering Manager of a Product Vertical. Your role consists of three parts:

  1. You are part of the Management team in one of our Verticals (Demand, Supply or Fulfillment) and of the collective of Tech Lead Managers at Catawiki. As such, you play an active role in bringing the vertical forward and shaping the strategy for vertical tech foundations in order to modernize the tech stack and enable faster delivery of product improvements.
  2. You are responsible and accountable for hiring, coaching, empowering, growing, and assessing/promoting the engineers in your team.
  3. You will be shaping how the team can deliver on its mission and vision. The most important aspects are:
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the engineers in code quality and maintainability, contribute to the design and architecture of the team's domain, support professional growth and development of the engineers
  • Partner with the Product and UX peers to detail out the team's roadmap and deliver product initiatives with customer-centricity principles in mind
  • Together with the engineers on the team, shape the tech foundations for the team's domain to enable the delivery of new product features in a fast and high-quality manner
  • Establish quality metrics to track and analyze the effectiveness of the team's software delivery processes

How we roll - Our Stack

As the biggest marketplace for special items, Catawiki operates in a market, which brings a lot of unusual challenges and opportunities. You will be developing, testing and scaling our microservices, written in Ruby, to handle the high volume served by the platform every single day. We do this by using Infrastructure as Code principles, collaborative peer-reviews, delivering code to production multiple times a day, A/B testing various assumptions, sometimes making mistakes, learning from them, and iterating quickly.

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in software development
  • Proven track record of leading a team to deliver product initiatives aligned with the business objectives
  • Proven track record of partnering with Product and UX peers to design and deliver products
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams with stakeholders in a matrix organization

Our offices and way of working

We have sensational offices in Amsterdam, Groningen, Paris and our newest office in Lisbon. This means we expect you to be in the office 2 out of 5 days, roughly 40% of your working time, to collaborate and connect with each other. The exception is of course, if the job description specifically states that the role is 100% remote, as some experts and sales positions are.

If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

Flexible Working

We’re continually incorporating hybrid elements, while employees choose how they split their work between the office and home.
