We’re looking for a Senior Financial Accountant to take full ownership of our Portuguese entity’s accounting, tax, and financial reporting activities. In this key role, you’ll act as the local finance expert, managing all statutory and tax compliance requirements under Portuguese Local GAAP and helping drive efficiency and excellence across our finance operations.
As the Senior Financial Accountant, you will:
Take full ownership of all local financial activities including statutory bookkeeping, VAT and CIT declarations, year-end financial statements, and compliance with all local accounting, tax and reporting obligations.
Independently manage the Purchase-to-Pay process, ensuring all (company wide) invoices and payments are processed timely and accurately.
Take ownership of month-end close activities for both the Portuguese entity and selected consolidated areas, including journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
Support group-level reporting, external audits, and consolidation activities in close collaboration with our Dutch-based Accounting & Reporting team.
Continuously improve finance processes, leveraging tools like Workday, OCR, and automation technologies like AI to enhance efficiency.
Act as a key point of contact for local financial and tax authorities and liaise with external service providers when needed.
A Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance, obtained in Portugal.
A minimum of 3-4 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in a role with exposure to local statutory and tax responsibilities.
Certified Accountant (Contabilista Certificado) status or equivalent in order to be able to legally sign off and file the Annual Financial Statements and the Corporate Income Tax (IRC) on behalf of a company.
In-depth knowledge of Portuguese GAAP and strong familiarity with tax legislation (VAT, CIT, etc.). IFRS knowledge is a plus.
A proactive and self-driven attitude, with the ability to work independently while staying closely connected to the Dutch headquarters team.
A strong personality with excellent communication skills, capable of collaborating across countries and departments.
Comfort working in a dynamic, tech-enabled environment with a continuous improvement mindset.
Fluency in Portuguese and English is required.

Our vibrant offices in Amsterdam, Paris and Lisbon are designed to inspire and connect. Most Catawikians are within commuting distance of one of our offices and enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work model. This means we typically ask you to be in the office 2 out of 5 days, roughly 40% of your working time, to collaborate and connect with your colleagues. Of course, if the job description specifies that the role is 100% remote—such as for certain expert or sales positions—then that arrangement will apply.
Apply directly with an English CV and cover letter by submitting your information at the bottom of this page. By submitting your application you agree to Catawiki’s Applicant Privacy Policy.
If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
We’re continually incorporating hybrid elements, while employees choose how they split their work between the office and home.
We strive to be an employer where your impact is meaningful, visible and rewarded.
