About the role

We are seeking an experienced Jewellery & Precious Stones Expert to support our team of experts and jewellery sellers in India, contributing to the growth of Catawiki’s Jewellery auctions.

What you’ll do:

  • As a Catawiki expert, you will use your specialist knowledge, to be responsible for creating attractive auctions by evaluating and arranging lots submitted by our sellers.
  • Balanced with your knowledge and experience of the trade, you will review the lot titles, descriptions, pictures, and provide users with an estimated and realistic value based on this information.
  • One of our main focuses is to keep user transactions as transparent and fair as possible, and your expertise and experience play a large part in maintaining this standard. We pride ourselves on being a unique, interactive platform so a professional, polite and courteous approach with our sellers is an absolutely essential attribute. Your efforts result in exceptional auctions that bidders will find irresistible. 
  • To keep your own auctions attracting bidders, you will be regularly working with our sales department, to recruit and develop new sellers and diversify the selection of lots offered in your auctions.
  • Finally, you’ll also be working together with our marketing department to generate an increase of potential bidder attention at your auction.

What you'll bring:

  • A Gemmology Diploma from one of the internationally recognised schools (GIA; IGI);
  • 3–8 years’ experience in the jewellery, diamonds or precious stones trade with knowledge of the manufacturing process, quality control, or the ability to perform gemmological tests;
  • Experience in appraising and assessing jewellery;
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions;
  • Good grasp of market prices and strong understanding of the various layers needed when curating a lot online;
  • Extensive trade knowledge with a network of potential sellers and experts in your field;
  • A real team player with excellent communication and negotiation skills;
  • Proficiency in computer tools used for data analysis, reporting and presentations For example Excel or Google Sheets and PowerPoint or Google Slides.
  • The diplomatic competence needed to act as a mediator in disputes between users;
  • Fluent English language skills; Gujarati is a plus.

Our Offices and Way of Working

Our vibrant offices in Amsterdam, Paris and Lisbon are designed to inspire collaboration. Most Catawikians operate in a hybrid setup, combining office-based and remote work, with a minimum of two days per week in the office, unless a role is explicitly stated as fully remote or fully office-based.
