Frontend Engineer

At Catawiki, every day brings the extraordinary! Whether it’s Daniel Ricciardo’s Formula 1 Car, a Woolly Mammoth’s Skeleton, Lady Gaga's Jumpsuit or Usain Bolt’s running shoe, we encounter exceptional objects every day.

We’re a one-of-a-kind marketplace for buying and selling special objects. Each week, more than 100,000 unique items are auctioned, all carefully curated by our passionate in-house experts.

Having sold over 25 million unique objects, our mission is to become the world’s most popular destination for special objects. As a growing, diverse and sustainable scale-up, we proudly live by three core values. If these values resonate with you, we’d love to explore how you can join us.

  • Taking ownership and driving impact
  • Being open to change and feedback
  • Being passionate about our mission and our customers.

Your Mission

Join one of Catawiki’s main Development Verticals, Demand, Supply or Fulfilment, and help us improve the experience of buyers, sellers, and internal teams across our platform. Working alongside Backend, Frontend, iOS, and Android Engineers, you’ll build product innovations for Catawiki’s apps and web app.
You’ll collaborate closely with QA, UX Designers, Product Managers, and with the support of a Tech Lead Manager to create beautiful, adaptable web frontends on top of scalable microservices. While your product area may vary, your goal will remain the same: deliver reliable, high-quality experiences that make a meaningful impact for our users.

What You'll Do

Here at Catawiki, you will make an impact by improving and delivering product innovations for the Catawiki platform:

  • Build impactful product experiences by improving and delivering innovations across the Catawiki platform for buyers, sellers, customer service, and internal operations teams.
  • Create adaptable web frontends on top of scalable microservices using our core frontend stack of TypeScript and ReactJS.
  • Deliver responsive, accessible experiences that work well across desktop, tablet, and mobile screens.
  • Optimise product performance by measuring and monitoring systems and using insights to improve the experiences you build.
  • Experiment and learn by partnering with Product Managers and UX Designers on A/B tests, using data analysis to validate ideas and iterate.
  • Collaborate across disciplines with engineers, QA, design, and product colleagues to build scalable and maintainable solutions.

What You’ll Bring

You are a Frontend Engineer with extensive frontend experience in multiple technologies, with an impressive portfolio of past frontend deliveries, and eager to expand your knowledge and impact, ready to take the next step in your career. As a Senior Developer, you are effective in lifting the level of your team, and you love to cooperate with Frontend Engineers of other teams.

  • Extensive frontend experience: Demonstrated experience as a Frontend Engineer, using JavaScript or TypeScript as your main stack, with a strong portfolio of frontend deliveries.
  • Strong web foundations: Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, along with an understanding of HTTP/S, the Critical Rendering Path, CORS, caching, and CDNs.
  • Modern frontend expertise: Familiarity with libraries and frameworks such as ReactJS, NextJS, Redux, CSS Modules, Tailwind, and/or Rails.
  • Product-focused collaboration: Proven experience in product companies, working closely with engineers and Product Managers as part of an autonomous, cross-functional team.
  • Production ownership: Experience designing, implementing, deploying, monitoring, and managing applications with a focus on availability, latency, and consistency - you build it, you run it, you love it.
  • Quality-minded engineering: An understanding of principles such as SOLID and DRY, with consideration for accessibility, security, SEO, performance, testing, observability, internationalisation, and typing when building features.
  • Collaborate and grow with your team: You take initiative, welcome new challenges, help raise the level of your team, share knowledge across teams, and actively expand your skills and impact.
  • Experiment, learn, and iterate: You validate ideas quickly, iterate based on insights, and are willing to discard what does not work - then build validated solutions for long-term scalability and maintainability.

Familiarity with NodeJS and experience running it in production is a plus. It will help you collaborate effectively across the stack and optimise frontend-backend interactions.

How We Work

  • Our Engineering teams are interdisciplinary, bringing together Backend, Frontend, iOS, and Android Engineers with QA, UX Design, Product Management, and Engineering leadership.
  • Teams take ownership of their product area and work together to ship new features, learn new things, and pursue meaningful technical challenges.
  • We use a test-and-learn approach, combining experimentation and data with a focus on maintainability and long-term quality.
  • We value passionate engineers who have a strong eye for detail, take initiative, support their colleagues, and enjoy working in a diverse and dynamic environment.
