About the role

As an Expert in Dutch & Belgian Art, you will be closely involved with evaluating and arranging lots submitted by our users. Using your expert knowledge in Modern & Contemporary Art, you will be responsible for creating attractive auctions every week and expanding Catawiki’s seller base in the Netherlands and Belgium. You’ll be part of an international team of Art experts, working closely with top galleries around Europe and you will contribute significantly to driving profitable growth with high impact for the category and beyond.

What you’ll do

  • Catawiki strives to keep user transactions as transparent and fair as possible, and your expertise and experience play a large part in maintaining this standard; you know better than anyone what items are of interest to our users. 
  • You will review lot titles, descriptions, lot pictures, and provide users with an estimated value based on this information. If you need to reject a submission, you do so in a professional and courteous manner. Your efforts result in exceptional auctions that bidders will find irresistible. 
  • In this role, you’ll also act as a commercial representative for Catawiki, attending art fairs and engaging directly with buyers and sellers. 
  • You’ll negotiate effectively, providing expertise to facilitate successful transactions and fostering trust and transparency. 
  • Additionally, you’ll play an essential role in expanding Catawiki’s seller base in the Netherlands and Belgium.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong expertise in Dutch & Belgian paintings and prints of the Modern, Post-War & Contemporary period;
  • Commercial acumen, with proven experience in negotiating deals and representing a platform at fairs and exhibitions.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with online sales platforms.
  • Skills in optimising auction strategies (reserve price, sell rate) and tracking auction performance, while guiding sellers on current market trends.
  • A reliable network of contacts, including dealers, collectors, curators, and experts 
  • Natural team player and thrive in a diverse team environment;
  • Native Dutch speaker, excellent English communication;

Where you’ll be

The role is based in the Netherlands or Belgium with a work-from-home arrangement. You will be part of the Art department and will be working for our Dutch-speaking markets.

Our Offices and Way of Working

Our vibrant offices in Amsterdam, Paris and Lisbon are designed to inspire and connect. Most Catawikians are within commuting distance of one of our offices and enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work model. This means we typically ask you to be in the office 2 out of 5 days, roughly 40% of your working time, to collaborate and connect with your colleagues. Of course, if the job description specifies that the role is 100% remote—such as for certain expert or sales positions—then that arrangement will apply.
