About the role

Ready to own the numbers behind extraordinary objects?

At Catawiki, every day brings something extraordinary. From rare collectibles to iconic memorabilia, millions of special objects pass through our marketplace. Behind the scenes, our Finance team helps keep everything running smoothly as we continue to grow internationally.

We’re looking for a hands-on Senior Financial Accountant to join our Accounting & Reporting team. This role is ideal for someone with strong accounting fundamentals, a proactive mindset and the confidence to independently manage accounting responsibilities in an international and fast-moving environment.

While this role is based in Portugal, you will work closely with our Finance team in the Netherlands and collaborate daily with stakeholders across the business. As Finance is not yet locally represented in Portugal, this is a role for someone who enjoys ownership, works well independently and feels comfortable operating in a highly collaborative remote setup.

You won’t just process numbers; you’ll help strengthen the financial backbone behind millions of special objects while contributing to smarter and more scalable Finance processes.

What you’ll do

You will become a trusted owner of selected accounting areas and help ensure Catawiki’s financial reporting remains accurate, reliable and scalable as the business continues to grow internationally.

Beyond the month-end close, you’ll help strengthen processes, improve reporting quality and partner with stakeholders across Finance and the wider business to solve accounting and reporting challenges.

Your core responsibilities

  • Own selected month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations and balance sheet reviews
  • Manage accounting areas or entities through the close process with a strong focus on accuracy, completeness and timely delivery
  • Act as a key Finance partner to Payroll, ensuring accurate payroll processing and payment controls
  • Analyse financial movements and variances and provide clear insights to stakeholders
  • Ensure accounting activities are performed in line with internal policies and reporting requirements
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and coordinating follow-ups
  • Work with external accounting partners for foreign entities and support local reporting activities where needed
  • Partner with Finance and business stakeholders to resolve accounting and reporting questions
  • Use Workday Financials in your daily work and support process improvements where relevant
  • Represent Accounting & Reporting in cross-functional projects and assess the impact on Finance processes and controls
  • Proactively identify risks, issues and opportunities for simplification
  • Drive improvements in Finance processes, controls and reporting to support scalable and efficient ways of working

You’ll gain broad exposure to accounting and reporting in a growing international marketplace environment.

What makes this role exciting?

  • High ownership and autonomy: This is a role with a high level of trust and responsibility. You’ll independently manage accounting areas end to end while staying closely connected with the wider Finance organisation remotely.
  • International exposure: You’ll work with stakeholders across multiple countries and support accounting and reporting activities in an international marketplace business.
  • Real impact: You won’t just prepare journals; you’ll help improve processes, strengthen controls and contribute to better financial insights and decision-making.
  • A modern way of working: You’ll be part of an international Finance team that collaborates digitally, values ownership and embraces continuous improvement, automation and scalability.

Collaboration beyond borders: Although your day-to-day collaboration will happen remotely, we believe personal connection matters too. You can expect occasional travel to Amsterdam or our Portugal office to connect with colleagues, collaborate in person and strengthen team relationships.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone with strong accounting fundamentals who combines ownership, analytical thinking and attention to detail with a pragmatic, hands-on approach.

Experience & background

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics or similar, preferably obtained in Portugal
  • Certified Accountant (Contabilista Certificado) status or equivalent
  • Solid experience in financial accounting, preferably in an international, marketplace, e-commerce, platform or tech environment
  • Hands-on experience with month-end close activities, including journals, accruals and reconciliations
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles; IFRS knowledge is a plus
  • Experience supporting audits and working with internal or external stakeholders
  • Experience with Workday Financials is a plus
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
